About

So you want to know who I am? What I use to put this website together? Or do you just like clicking links? Nevermind. This should satisfy no matter what desires drove you here.

About Me

My name is Tim Mathews, I’m a life-long resident of Maryland and it’s been a dream of mine since I was very young to own a sailboat. Now I do. I have a 1962 Corvette that should one day make an appearance on this site. I get paid to play with computers and annoy people. I also enjoy writing and if I ever produce anything of merit with a pen, it too will be enshrined in this remote corner of webspace.

About the Site

First off, all the good names are taken. So that’s why I’ve called this one 8191.net. 8191 is a mersenne prime, specifically 2^13^-1. A mersenne prime is defined as 2^p^-1 where p is a prime number. Currently all the largest known primes are meresenne. You can find out more about mersenne primes at GIMPS, the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search.

This is just a collection of my projects. Some are finished, some aren’t, many are abandoned. Sometimes you might see some commentary on the front page from me about some mundane aspect of my life. Usually those posts are reserved for information about changes on the site.

Tools of the Website Trade

I’m using Radiant CMS to manage the content of this site. For many years, I handled the code and content manually, but this is easier. Plus, it’s built on RoR(Ruby on Rails) which I really like.
